Encaustic ArtFrom a very modern technique of creating images - digital art - to one that dates back to Roman and Egyptian times at least - encaustic art. The process involves melting wax and pigment on a variety of tools, the most common one being a type of iron, and applying it to various surfaces, usually paper with a special finish or canvas. Results can be achieved rapidly. In fact, the artist has to work speedily because the wax sets quickly and, if you work the colours too much, they turn to a sludgy colour. Every image created is unique as it's very difficult to reproduce the exact strokes used in a picture. |

Rosemary & John Parr - Encaustic ArtistsRosemary and John discovered encaustic art as a technique in 2004. They were hooked on it immediately and describe it as an addictive art form! It flows with your mood and, like other forms of painting, if the ideas are not there, the pictures don't happen. They are still exploring the variety of ways that this medium can be used and each new discovery is a source of excitement and late nights in the studio! |

Exhibitions & DemonstrationsRosemary and John showed their first pieces of encaustic art as prints at an exhibition in Kings Lynn in September 2008, which was in aid of the Mayor's charity. They've reproduced one of their pieces as a canvas 48" wide and it now hangs in the foyer of a corporate client's offices in Milton Keynes. In 2009 they've already shown their work at a number of locations as part of Open Studios, John Parr's Parrot Tulip was selected for the Eastern Open exhibition, they have been busy demonstrating their encaustic techniques, exhibited at Stradsett Hall and are submitting work for the annual West Norfolk Artists' Association Summer Exhibition. Check the News page for updates on where to see their work. Rosemary and John are also available to demonstrate encaustic art to groups of up to 15 people.
